Before Fearlessly Funded, there was Fragrance Arise.

I started blogging my journey with prayer ministry in 2011, then built fragrancearise.com in 2018 and started reaching a wider audience. God led me away from actively building Fragrance Arise about a year before Fearlessly Funded started, but most of the archives are still here!

I’m still working on getting the backlog of posts up. If there’s something specific you’re looking for, please email caitlyn@fearlesslyfunded.com and I’ll find it for you.

Intro to the End Times #9: How Should We Read Revelation?

A lot of people consider Revelation the "scary book" or just plain confusing; there are even some great memes about how confusing Revelation is.Everyone starts by being confused—but no one is supposed to stop there. How mean would it be of God to write an entire book of the Bible that He knew would be out of our reach?

Intro to the End Times #8: How Is Jesus Revealed in the Story?

Studying the end times is first and foremost about knowing Jesus—the "man behind the plan." Revelation 1:1 introduces itself as the "revelation of Jesus Christ", not the revelation of the antichrist or judgment or anything else. This is absolutely key because if we memorize facts and timelines and can argue eschatology inside and out, but don't know the heart of Jesus in it ("but have not love," as 1 Corinthians 13 would say), we've missed the whole point.

Intro to the End Times #6: Are the End Times Good or Bad?

There seem to be two major perspectives on the "good or bad"-ness of the season of time right before Jesus comes back. On the one hand, the end times are sometimes presented as all bad bad bad—judgment, destruction, persecution… On the other hand, the story is sometimes presented as all good and no badthat we're going to experience massive global revival, the church is going to spread the Kingdom all over the earth... As is often the case, the truth is a bit of both.

Intro to the End Times #5: What Are the Signs of the Times?

The question of the signs of the times is of growing interest in the world right now. Even the unbelieving world is asking questions and wondering what chapter of human history we're in. Luckily for us, we don't have to speculate. When the disciples asked Jesus the question, "what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?" (Mt. 24:3) He gave them two chapters of an answer!

Intro to the End Times #3: Where is the Story Going?

The end times aren't a wild disaster of history going off the rails; they are a story playing out exactly as God intends to bring about His ultimate purposes. As any writer knows, the end of a story is for tying up loose ends and bringing things to conclusion—while also teasing a sequel yet to come!

So what are God's purposes in the end of the story?

Intro to the End Times #2: Why Should We Study the End Times?

If all God wanted us to know about the end times is that "Jesus wins," He wouldn't have put 150 chapters in the Bible about it. Therefore, if "all Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable…" (2 Timothy 3:16-17) what purpose are these 150 chapters supposed to serve in our lives? Here are seven reasons I find studying the end times to be valuable.

Intro to the End Times #1: Does God Want Us to Understand the End Times?

A friend of mine used to call herself an "eschatological agnostic," saying, "Everyone was wrong about the first coming, so we'll probably all be wrong about the second coming!" However, that perspective is flawed because 1) not everyone was wrong, and 2) those who were got rebuked for it! Amos 3:7 says, “For the Lord GOD does nothing without revealing his secret to his servants the prophets." How could we even imagine that God would do something as massive as the end time judgments and the second coming of Jesus and NOT want His people to understand?

Letter to Myself 10 Years Ago

Dear Caitlyn... Hello from 2020! I know that sounds like the vastly distant future, but I promise the time will pass more quickly than you expect. So, for you it's 2010. Tools for a Life of Prayer: Praying for Your Soul

A few years ago during my senior year of ministry school, one of my teachers gave us an assignment to only pray for our own souls for three full days. No praying for other people or outside circumstances at all. That's not an easy assignment to give a community of intercessors! I don't think I realized when I started how hard it would be.

4 Keys to a Successful Prayer Meeting

After I lead a prayer meeting with a worship team, prayer team, or both, I always take some time to debrief with them-- to encourage each other, clarify confusion, etc. I always like to be able to tell my team that we did it; we had a successful prayer meeting.

So what makes a prayer meeting successful?

Tools for a Life of Prayer: Praying the Apostolic Prayers

If you've been tracking with this series for a while now, you know that I wholeheartedly encourage praying the Word--actually turning the words of Scripture into your own prayers. Many verses can become powerful, intimate prayers, but there is one particular set of verses that is especially useful. We call them the apostolic prayers. Apostolic prayers are prayers that were prayed in the New Testament by Jesus and the apostles.
